Houghton Player Signs with Charlotte
Apr. 20, 2009
Erik Lefebvre, a two-time NAIA All-American with the Houghton College men's soccer team, is set to begin his professional playing career as a member of the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League-2.
The goalkeeper from Ottawa, Ontario, has been a rock in net for the Highlanders, stepping into a starting role in 2005 as a freshman, which he never relinquished. The impact Lefebvre made on the field that season earned him a spot on the All-American Mideast Conference (AMC) First Team and was voted to this team all four years of his college career.
Lefebvre enjoyed a stellar senior season in which he picked up his fourth selection to the All-AMC First Team, and finished the year rated as the second best player in the AMC. His final campaign with the purple and gold also landed him back on the NAIA All-American Second Team.
"I am extremely proud of Erik as he takes this next step toward fulfilling his dream of playing professional soccer," said Coach Webb. "I couldn't be happier for him. Erik has been a stalwart in the net for our program for the last four years."
Lefebvre will join an Eagles organization with strong ties to Missionary Athletes International, a company which was co-founded by Brian Davidson another former Highlander net-minder. The Eagles made it to the USL-2 championship game last season, and are looking to build on that strong campaign.
