SWU Warriors Receive Softball Awards

The Southern Wesleyan doftball team recently received awards from both the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) and the National Christian College South Region.
Lauren Angel earned her second consecutive SSAC All-Conference award and was also named to the NCCAA South Region Team. Angel led the Warriors with a .280 batting average, which included a team high 37 hits, while scoring 15 runs and driving home 15 runs. She was also one of the team's top defensive players with a .977 fielding percentage as she only committed three errors in 46 games. Angel had a team high 29 walks and her .63 walks per game is second in the NCCAA.
Ashlee Barber was named to the Musco Lighting Champion of Character Team, which is a new award this year in the SSAC for all sports. Barber tied for the team lead in wins with four and was the top fielding player with a .979 percentage.
Nila Carpenter was named to the SSAC All-Freshman Team after scoring 13 runs during the season which was fourth for the Warriors.
Ikeah Tate and Teann Pilgrim joined Angel on the NCCAA South Region Team. Tate batted .254 and led the Warriors in runs scored with 23. Her four homeruns were tied for the team lead and her 55 total bases led the team. Pilgrim became a regular for Southern Wesleyan in the pitcher's circle, starting 16 games which were second on the team. Her four wins tied for the team lead and her 4.17 earned run average was second. Pilgrim struck out 92 batters which was the most for any of the Warriors' pitching staff.
Southern Wesleyan finished the season with an overall record of 13-35 and a 3-29 record in the highly competitive SSAC.
