10 Ways You Can Stand Against Human Trafficking

Sep. 3, 2009

• Learn about human trafficking: Internet, documentaries, film, video, books

• Start a conversation with your social network: Discuss in person, by phone, or online

• Volunteer time: Contact a prevention or caregiver organization

• Give funds: Donate to recognized faith-based or civic prevention or caregiver organizations.

• Create public awareness: Engage community leaders in conversation, write letters or articles on the subject

• Research businesses you frequent: Do the local businesses you support employ trafficked victims or promote trafficking (e.g. abuses workers, pays low wages, employs illegally, or sells pornography)?

• Report suspicious activity: Call a civic or law enforcement hotline with tips about potential trafficking-related activities. Visit the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (a program of Polaris Project) to learn more.

• Support victim recovery: Support victim recovery businesses, including buying products produced by rescued trafficking victims that help fund their livelihood and recovery process.

• Attend an anti-trafficking seminar or conference: Learn firsthand from victims, interveners, and caregivers

• Purchase wisely: Refrain from purchasing items made by companies that support human trafficking: Visit this link at Free2Work for two videos.
