SWU Volleyball Event to Benefit Fight Against Breast Cancer
Oct. 21, 2009
For the third consecutive year, the Southern Wesleyan University volleyball team will use their sport to raise money to assist with breast cancer research.
On Saturday, October 31, SWU will host Faulkner University in Central, S.C., at 1:00 p.m. The match has been designated as a "Dig Pink" match which is a program that over 1,000 high schools and colleges are participating in this volleyball season. "Dig Pink" is being sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation with the money raised going to help fund research for breast cancer. Both teams will wear pink uniforms and historic Tysinger Gymnasium will be decorated in pink.
The volleyball team hopes to raise at least $3,500 through the "Dig Pink" initiative. As incentive, SWU volleyball head coach Derek Schmitt has agreed to dye his hair pink for the "Dig Pink" match if the goal is met by October 30.
