Oct. 28, 2009
Over 100 attendees at the recent Indiana South District Best Year's Fellowship were among the first to enjoy the debt-free facilities of the district's Orleans, Indiana, camp grounds. Indiana South began an intense effort to eliminate debt on the camp and celebrated their goal with a mortgage burning service at the district's annual conference. General Superintendent Dr. Jerry G. Pence. (Dr. Pence is pictured with the district superintendent, Dr. Mark Eckart, and the assistant D.S., Rev. Bob England. While burning the mortgage, the crowd sang the Doxology.)
The retreat is just one of many activities featured on the campgrounds, which has seen overall growth, with new and newly renovated cottages that are occupied spring through fall and the purchase of 118 acres adjoining the grounds that will be used for future development.
This year's BYF retreat, led by Rev. Philo Jones, featured former Indiana South district superintendent, Rev. O. W. Willis as its speaker and music by Max and Vernita Hamilton. Morning and evening Bible studies, afternoon recreation times, and fellowship times throughout the day in the camp's modern cafeteria highlight the two-day event.
Dr. Eckart says $360,000 was paid into the debt elimination program.
