WNAM Hosts Breakout Lunch on Social Justice Issues

Oct. 29, 2009

As approximately 50 Wesleyan pastors and lay leaders and 20 Indiana Wesleyan University students (all involved in community based ministries across North America) sat around lunch tables on Friday, October 23, history was made.

WNAM (Wesleyan Native American Ministries) sponsored a breakout luncheon for these 70 individuals at this year's CCDA (Christian Community Development Association) National Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This breakout was a first for The Wesleyan Church in its efforts to spur the movement of social justice issues and community development involvement within the denomination. This conference gave the opportunity for individuals to brainstorm ways to connect, network, receive information, and allowed for discussion as to how and where The Wesleyan Church should make its next step.

The breakout was led by Rich Avery (Director, WNAM), Christy Lipscomb (Assistant D.S., West Michigan), Traver Butcher (Coordinator of Community Based Ministries, The Wesleyan Church), and Jo Anne Lyon (General Superintendent, The Wesleyan Church). Guest speakers included Jo Anne Lyon, Garret Grigsby (grant expert, Grigsby Government Relations Associates) and Bob Lupton (pictured, President, FCS Urban Ministries).
