Church Planter Coaching Download List of Certified Coaches
What is coaching all about?
Coaching is an empowering relationship and conversation. Unlike mentoring, counseling, or consulting, it gives ownership of the journey and the outcomes to the person being coached. A coach comes alongside a person or team to help them discover God's agenda and vision for their life and ministry. Through strategic goal-setting, asking powerful questions, effective listening, determining priorities and action steps, and providing support, encouragement and accountability, a coach and coachee cooperate with the Holy Spirit to see that agenda become a reality. A coach walks the journey with you to help you succeed. And what is success? Finding out what God wants you to do and doing it!
Why does a church planter need a coach?
Planting a church is complex. There are many issues that need to be addressed, and milestones that need to be reached in order for a church plant to be successful. A coach will walk beside the planter, setting goals to reach those milestones, creating action steps to move forward, and ensuring that all the important facets of church planting are covered. (The main guide for the coaching relationship will be the "11 Essential Areas of Planting a Church" attached below.) A coach also offers a safe place for the planter, where struggles can be talked through. A coach asks the hard questions about spirituality, boundaries and family balance, and good coaching increases the likelihood of success by 15-20%.
What does a Wesleyan Certified Church Planter Coach have to offer?
Our coaches bring both knowledge and experience of planting to the table. They have received training through CoachNet International, a leading innovator of church planting methodology and coaching. The E&CG Department has partnered with CoachNet to develop the Wesleyan/CoachNet Coach Certification Training Program. It is an 8-month training process, and the Wesleyan Church now has 12 Certified Coaches available to our church planters. Our coaches have received coaching themselves, as well as experience in coaching others. They have also received church plant specialization training, to specifically know how to take someone through the planting process.
