“EE-TAOW!”
In the language of the Mouk tribe of Papua New Guinea, “ee-taow” means, “It is good. It is true.” Prior to the arrival of missionaries in the late 90s, the Mouk had no exposure to the teachings of the Bible. Once the missionaries learned the Mouk’s language, the people of the tribe flocked to hear the “God Talk.” Story by story the missionaries laid out the foundation of the Old Testament. The people came to understand their sin, God’s judgment, and the concept of a sacrificial lamb. When the New Testament began to unfold, the people came to love Jesus. His death surprised and sobered them. His resurrection raised their hope. When the Mouk people realized that Jesus’ death covered their sin and protected them from God’s judgment, spontaneous celebration broke out among a typically reserved people. They praised God and celebrated their salvation.
According to Psalm 69, David found himself in a difficult situation. He begged for protection, and trusted that God would provide it. He committed to praise and thank God even before he saw tangible evidence of the coming restoration of Judah.
Do you trust the Bible’s declaration that God is good? Do you believe in His promises even when you can’t see your way out of a hard situation? Wherever you find yourself today, you can praise and thank God for the salvation He promises you.
