Captain, My Captain - The Wesleyan Church

I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father. (Rev. 3:5)

As we grow up, we quickly learn that the waves of this world can come crashing in on us and sin can become a temporary flotation device when we have gone overboard. However, when we go overboard, we need to trust our captain. Trust that he knows his crew and can lead us all to safety regardless of the storm.

When we put our trust in the Lord, we are saying that we put our lives in his hands and submit to his authority. We are saying, “Captain, my captain, I will serve you, and only you, as we go through this life on earth, no matter what it may bring.” This surrender creates a bond that can withstand even the harshest conditions. True connectedness to the Father means that we are connected for life, through life. When we connect to the heart of God, we are connected to him not only for the duration of our life here on earth, but also for a life eternal.

Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters” (Matt. 6:24). So are you trusting God with everything you have or are you trying to hold on to another “safety” device just in case God isn’t there to save you? The only happy way to live is to serve one captain. Then we shine and stand out in the presence of God and man.

Create space to be honest with God about how much you trust him.
