I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. (Isa. 55:3)
“You are invited!” These event cards always include the important information like the date and time, the host or hostess, the place, and an RSVP. The only thing left out of the invite are the benefits I will receive as an attendee.
Unlike the Israelites, I had no prior experience with God. They had seen God’s work firsthand. They knew about God’s covenant with David, that one of his descendants who would reign on Israel’s throne forever. And, they knew about his promises.
I had only attended church sporadically and knew no one who claimed to be a Christian. I had no knowledge about God or his promises. And the invitations I had received in the past did not prepare me for God’s invitation.
His invitation was like no other! He promised me that I could be a part of this great covenant, just like the Israelites. First, as a Christian believer I could experience his great love. Second, as a witness to what God can do in lives of those who trust in him, I could lead others into this relationship with him. All because of an invitation he gave and I accepted. You, too, can be a part of this covenant, and the benefits he promised.
Count on the promises of God’s covenant, because he is faithful.
