Dear Wesleyan Church family,
Our Wesleyan sisters and brothers in The United Methodist Church (UMC) will be convening at a Special Session of their General Conference called by the UMC Council of Bishops February 23-26. Their purpose, as stated on the UMC website, “is to receive and act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward based on the recommendations of the Council of Bishops. The 32-member Commission was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and exploring options to strengthen the unity of the church.” Links to the Commission report and referenced Book of Discipline paragraphs are located on the UMC website.
Would you unite in prayer for this Special Session and for The United Methodist Church, asking God to anoint its leaders and delegates to seek first his will in all matters, that the Holy Spirit can move freely guiding speech and voting, and manage emotions, and that the bride of Christ will stand stronger and more radiant after the session’s closing prayer?
Additionally, I am mindful of the fact that this Special Session occurs in the same city and venue as our 2020 General Conference. It is vital that we, as The Wesleyan Church, continue to seek God’s heart for his mission, his people and for one other. I am blessed to serve with you and thank God for you.
