The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (Isa. 60:19)
AS MY MOM GOT OLDER, she lost the ability to go back to sleep once she was awake. She sometimes decided to move the furniture in the middle of the night. One night Mom had gotten up and rearranged the living room chairs in a pleasing-to-her sitting group. In doing so, she completely cut off the traffic path from the bedroom to the kitchen. Dad got up early that morning while it was still dark. He headed straight to the kitchen to start some coffee, and promptly crashed into a hard, wooden rocking chair. Down he went, hollering all the way. He was not seriously hurt, but not long after that Mom found other ways to fill her sleepless nights.
The prophet Isaiah wrote of the day when light will fill the lives of God’s people. It will not be a light that flickers or goes out, but the light who is God. There will be no stumbling in the dark or crashing into the next disaster.
If only Dad had a night-light as effective as the light God promises to be for His people! In this life, we can rest in the fact the God himself promises to be our light, protecting us from tripping over things we might otherwise stumble into—and what a light He will be in the new heaven and new earth!
Choose today to utilize God’s light to avoid anything that might cause you to stumble.
