General Superintendent Dr. Jo Anne Lyon and Houghton President Dr. Shirley Mullen are both on the cover of Christianity Today this month.

In their just-released October 2012 issue, CT published a cover story entitled “50 Women You Should Know.” Twenty-five of the women are pictured on the cover. Most of them were briefly introduced with two-sentence descriptions, and these included excellent but predictable choices like Condoleezza Rice, Sarah Palin, Anne Graham Lotz, Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, and Michele Bachmann.

Some outstanding women are covered whose ministries happen to have intersected with The Wesleyan Church significantly, including Nancy Sleeth, Elisabeth Elliot, Joni Eareckson Tada, and others.

However, Christianity Today featured Dr. Lyon and Dr. Mullen, along with 16 other women, with photos and longer articles, and the links for those articles are below.

A few weeks ago, it was noted in another release that The Wesleyan Church represents only about 1/3 of one percent of Christian worshippers in North America, yet the Outreach list of 100 churches honored three Wesleyan congregations. It seems every bit as remarkable that in this very short list of North American Christian women of our generation, The Wesleyan Church claims these two individuals as very much our own.

Although this is a testament to a Church that has historically recognized women in leadership, it makes an even larger statement about who these two leaders are. The Wesleyan Church is proud to have such godly, gifted women in our Church; we are doubly blessed to have turned to them for leadership.
