Rev. A.L. Sypolt passed away December 5 in Lexington, Kentucky, at age 92. A West Virginia native, Rev. Sypolt served The Wesleyan Church as a pastor in both West Virginia and Kentucky from 1954-1975. He served as an assistant district superintendent 1970-1975 and a district superintendent of the Kentucky District of The Wesleyan Church from 1975-1990. He also served in various roles within Wesleyan higher education: dean of men at God’s Bible School and College and board member at Kernersville Bible School Board, United Wesleyan College, and Central Wesleyan College.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mae Layman Sypolt, two brothers, and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Joan) Sypolt, Lexington, Ky. and Bud (Pam) Sypolt, Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Connie (Randy) Hamilton, Ashland, Ky., and Donna (Greg) Pavey, Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, at 11:30 a.m., at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home (3421 Harrodsburg Rd. Lexington, KY, 40513) by Rev. Stephen Richmond. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
