Closing the gospel gap.
Jesus’ missional mandate in ACTS 1:8 reminds us, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Most likely, you are nodding your head in agreement when you hear the echo of Jesus’ words in ACTS 1:8, but you might wonder, what does the fulfillment of ACTS 1:8 look like in the 21st century? What does it look like in my church?
This mandate, ACTS 1:8, is in The Wesleyan Church (TWC) DNA, your DNA. When TWC was established in 1968, the primary objective was to form a collection of churches focused on announcing the Good News of Jesus, helping every wandering soul enter the Kingdom of God, and transforming society with the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ.
You already know our world is experiencing an ever-widening Gospel Gap. Yet, we are not without faith. TWC clergy and laity continue to believe in the empowerment and outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
The ACTS 1:8 Journey is our shared call to close the Gospel Gap. It’s a simple and prayerful process designed to help every church multiply its unique impact by making disciples who make disciples and starting new faith communities wherever the Holy Spirit leads.
Wesleyans know the harvest is plentiful, the workers are few, and Jesus still answers our prayers for workers of the harvest. The Holy Spirit really can do more than we can ask or imagine!
