The Houghton College Board of Trustees formally elected President Shirley Mullen to a new four-year term during a Board meeting held at the college’s campus, May 15 and 16. The new term will begin June 1 and run through May 31, 2019.
“Our deep appreciation to President Mullen, the administration, faculty, and staff as you are present and working daily to provide the unique experience to students that is the hallmark of Houghton College,” said Bobbie Strand, chair for the Board of Trustees, in a campus-wide memo.
The Board is made up of 32 trustees and meets, on average, three times per academic year.
The Board welcomed members of the president’s cabinet and representatives from all areas of the campus community to join in its business sessions and discussions dealing with enrollment, finance, planning for a campaign, and plans for the future. The Board joins the president, administration, faculty, staff, and students in the creative thinking, planning, and actions required to equip Houghton College to carry out its historic mission.
Mullen has served as president of Houghton College for nine years and was featured in 2012 in Christianity Today’s October issue as one of the “50 Women You Should Know.” More recently, Mullen was honored by Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I–Olean) as a 2015 Woman of Distinction.
