The Wesleyan Church is celebrating the life of one of its most faithful lay persons, Merle Phillips, who died August 18. She was 111.
Phillips is assumed to be the oldest known Wesleyan. She attended One Church, a Wesleyan congregation in Wheaton, Illinois, since 1957. She served in the church for years in various capacities.
Rev. Rick Carder, former director of Alumni and Church Engagement at Indiana Wesleyan University and a former assistant pastor at One Church, wrote a tribute to Phillips on his personal blog. The Chicago Tribune also wrote a story about Phillips.
