From all across The Wesleyan Church, pastors and their spouses who have given virtually a lifetime of service to God and to their people were honored Sunday night at General Conference at a banquet provided by Wesleyan Investment Foundation and the Wesleyan Pension Fund.
Cast pewter medallions signifying 40, 50, and 60 years of service were placed around the neck of each recipient. They also stated, “Commendation. Appreciation. The Wesleyan Church-2016.” Dr. Jo Anne Lyon personally thanked and congratulated each one as their photos were taken.
About 55 pastors were honored at the banquet, with some from almost every district. It was noted that there were many others across the church that were not able to attend General Conference, but will also be honored with their medallions by their district leaders.
One recipient was actually a 70-year pastor, Rev. Louis Smith, from Indiana Central District. Another honoree, Rev. Charles Williamson of Western Pennsylvania District, is still actively pastoring at the 65 year mark.
Following the banquet, the recipients were also honored at the evening rally on Sunday night.
