Each December, the four church sites of He Sapa New Life Native Ministries uses the Christmas season to share about Jesus and build bridges in native communities for future ministry opportunities. Through seven large outreach events scattered across native communities in western South Dakota, hundreds and thousands of natives are reached with a clear presentation of the gospel. School gymnasiums and community centers are used to accommodate the large crowds.
The reservations that are covered with these events are Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, as well as two native urban centers and a native boarding school.
Each weekend in December, our staff and volunteers head out early enough to travel hundreds of miles, set up for the Christmas program, meal and gifting, and then pack up and travel home. Each child present receives a gift and each elder receives a warm blanket. Bibles are also distributed to each person. Each location involves a large amount of preparations, expense and travel of hundred miles across very icy and snow-covered roads. But the opportunity to share the gospel is worth every cost.
