Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths. (Ps. 25:4)
SITTING ON THE BLEACHERS at my son’s wrestling meet, I saw a divorced couple interacting with each other and their children in a friendly manner. Although the pain of my divorce was still raw, I wondered if my ex-husband and I could someday be friends again. I began to pray that God would direct my path and my behavior so I might overcome any bitter feelings. Little did I know He would give me the opportunity sooner than I expected.
Within a couple of months, my son graduated from high school. At his graduation party, my ex-husband showed up with a lady friend. His friend was cordial and kind. She even stepped up to help with hosting duties. I struggled through the next couple of hours wondering what I had ever done to deserve this. After the party was over, tears streaming down my cheeks, I cried out to God, “Why me, God? Why me?”
From somewhere deep within, I heard the words, “This is what you have been praying for.”
“I know, but did it have to be so soon?”
“Now is as good a time as any. The sooner you get started, the better.”
When we earnestly seek God’s will, we can be confident that He will show us His way. Perhaps even sooner than we expect.
Seek God’s ways, and expect Him to reveal them.
