For the second year in a row, The Wesleyan Church Headquarters in Fishers, Ind., has achieved “Best Christian Workplace” status by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute.
Last year, headquarters achieved this status in its first year of applying with the program, the first time a church headquarters achieved this feat at such a fast pace.
“I am so pleased to know that we have again received the Best Christian Workplace Award,” said Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church. “It is clear that God is not only up to something in our movement but is also doing a work in the hearts of our leadership and in those who work so hard at our denominational headquarters.”
Ninety-four percent of all headquarters employees completed the survey, up from 84% last year.
Areas of strength reported for The Wesleyan Church include (in no particular order): communication (peer to peer, top to bottom, and bottom to top), staff engagement (employees have fun at work), and staff satisfaction. The score with job satisfaction was one of the highest scored, a score that increased from last year.
Five of the ten favorable items, based on staff scores, include: satisfaction in retirement plans; satisfaction in benefits and health insurance; compensated fairly in comparison to similar places of employment; headquarters met its goals last year; and headquarters is well-managed.
“I’m so thankful for each and every member of our team as they are such a helpful resource to Wesleyans along the way in transforming lives, churches, and communities,” said Dr. Lyon. “Way to go, Team. You did it again! It is so neat to see you working so well together.”
The Wesleyan Church World Headquarters seeks to improve is employee development. Leadership plans to implement an employee development plan for 2015 to further communication between the employee, supervisor, and fellow co-workers.
Certification of Best Christian Workplace status is effective November 2014 to October 2015.
Each year since 2003, BCWI recognizes exceptional organizations whose leadership understands that employee engagement results from a flourishing culture and drives positive ministry outcomes. Certified organizations exceed the percentage of engaged employees vs. norms. All named a Best Christian Workplace this year was College Wesleyan Church in Marion, Ind.
