We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven. (Heb. 8:1)
When you have a problem with a product or a service, who would you rather speak with: the counter clerk or the owner of the company? Usually the higher up the company you go, the more satisfaction you have in the end. The same principle holds true no matter the discipline. Law, medicine, education, trades, retail, or just about any focus has levels of accomplishment and expertise.
There is a parallel in the priesthood of God’s people. His people sought a priest to offer sacrifices on their behalf. Priests would then select from among themselves a high priest to serve God in the holiest sanctuary. Above them, God sent Jesus to represent all mankind at the throne of God. There we reach the top of the ladder. There is no better representative, or higher priest, than Jesus, the Son of God.
Jesus went from the bottom to the top on our behalf. Only he could do it, and he is still there today speaking to the Father for you and me. We can have satisfaction and spiritual peace because Jesus knows our weakness, has made the sufficient sacrifice for our sins, and has risen from death to eternal life. In his love for us, he has made a way for us to reach the top with him by following him.
Follow Jesus to the top.
